Los Mal Hablados has been the most recurring client for me in the past few years. Based out of Portland, OR, this musical act has toured across the world and been a part of several major festivals within the ska community. In the past, I was charged in creating several designs for the band that has been seen by their ever-increasing audience. This includes helping with merchandise, stickers, and tour posters.

For the band, I created designs that leaned more into the punk aspects and identity of the music. For the average listener, ska is usually a more upbeat “pick-it-up” genre of music. Los Mal Hablados is rebellious, loud, and aggressive. This is more of what I prefer to design as well, which was a boon in creating these projects. The main challenge was to keep something legible while injecting a raw, gritty, almost unfiltered aspect into the designs. I wanted to make something that could be perceived as something that has been weathered but bold. Los Mal Hablados is the culmination of the members’ musical careers and I believe I was able to capture it within the designs.
